4 voices balancing the everyday challenges of family, education, work, health, and everything else in between.

Sean

A little about me…..I’m not a writer. I’m not a web designer. There might be spelling errors because there is nothing less interesting to me than proof-reading your own work or someone else’s dream from the night before. So if this blog is terrible, please be nice and help me get better.

I’m just a  finance guy working in a creative environment, trying to finish his MBA program, while starting a family and staying healthy. Success is very attainable in the near future, but satisfaction seems further away.  I practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu a couple times a week. I’m still very much a beginner. I eat healthily most of the time (except when I don’t). I take vitamins daily (except when I forget), and I sleep 8 hours a night (its usually about 5). I have a strange obsession about the accuracy of movie quotes quoted by other people, and will tend to watch anything martial arts related on television or on Youtube. I try to be funny or sarcastic as much as I can to lighten the mood. I curse often and I rarely try to stop (I should probably work on that).

I’m all over the place. I speak my mind (when I’m not feeling insecure). I do as much as I can all of the time. And as little as I can when I can get away with it. I might ramble, I might drone on. One day I might blog about the best pizza I ever had.  The next day, I’ll be obsessed with researching camera lenses and comparing prices. You might not care. Just doing my best here. Trying to make it entertaining.

Bethany
I am a full-time MBA student majoring in Marketing at Baruch’s Zicklin School of Business.  I have a BS in Ed in Art Education and I am currently working in both education and marketing.  I am from Babylon, NY, but I’m lucky enough not to have picked up the delightful “Long Island Accent.”  I am a (not extreme) couponer, and my one true weakness is dessert!

Between attending classes full-time and working 20-30 hours per week, it’s not easy to juggle the rest of my life AND stay healthy.  I walk about 2.5 miles per day (to school and back!) for my exercise, and I try to eat a balanced diet by cooking fairly healthy foods at home, although the occasional dessert definitely slips in.  I don’t have a ton of time to devote to cooking, so many of the dinners I make are pretty simple foods that I load up with as many vegetables as possible!  While I like to eat healthily, I refuse to eat anything that I don’t enjoy simply because of its health benefits; if I’m going to eat 3-5 times per day, I’m going to enjoy it!

Spencer

I am a part-time MBA student majoring in Marketing at Baruch’s Zicklin School of Business.  I have a BS in Media Management and Economics from the University of Miami (”the U”).  I am originally from Miami, but I also went to high school in Los Angeles.  Currently I work in National Media Sales. Big sports fans (especially anything having to do with the University of Miami), Category 5 Caffeine Addict,  I love taking pictures, a multitude of television shows, and most importantly I love just hanging out with my wife.

Trying to find balance between classes, class work, professional work, business & social meetings, travel , my wife, friends, dog, and my two large families is always a challenge.  I find myself also always trying to add another element or passion into my already packed schedule. However health is of most importance and usually is the first thing to go in my schedule.  I am currently trying to maximize my calendar so I can get to the gym early in the morning 2-3 times a week.  Eating healthy is critical, which I do a pretty good job of during the work week, however once the weekend hits that becomes a much larger challenge. Here’s to finding that balance!

Evan

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Evan Small. I grew up on the south shore of Long Island but I currently live in Forest Hills (Queens) with my wife Jessica and 10 month old son Andy Benajmin; Also known as: A-Bizzle, A-Bomb, Andizzle, Shmanderson Cooper or Flanders.

I am a really busy guy…During the day, I work as a portfolio management associate at Morgan Stanley Private Wealth Management. After work (2 or 3 nights a week, depending on the semester), I attend Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business where I am pursuing my MBA in Finance. On the weekends, I coach Ramaz High School’s varsity tennis team for both boys and girls (which I have been doing for 5 years). Oh, and did I mention I have a wife and son who I love and can’t wait to spend time with??

A healthy lifestyle has always been important to me. In my free time, I love playing sports, working out, watching TV and spending time with my family. I love playing/watching tennis, golf, football (Jets), baseball (Mets) and always make sure to find time to play basketball (Knicks) once a week. You don’t need to tell me that all my teams suck- I know.  I also recently found a passion in racing. I am avid cyclist/runner and I like to call myself a triathlete. I have completed a half-marathon, a 100 mile bike ride and 5 triathlons…the last one being the Half Iron-Man. However, as much as I love training and racing, it’s been getting harder and harder to find time for myself and to continue training towards my ultimate goal of completing the Iron-Man.
I am looking forward to workschooleatplay providing me a space where I can write about the challenges finding a balance between work, school, family and sports.
